GTA 6 map vs real Florida
Leonida is Florida run through a funhouse mirror. Here is how the whole state lines up with the real thing, what gets squeezed together, and what seems to be left out.

Is GTA 6 set in Florida?
Not by name. GTA 6 is set in Leonida, a fictional state, and Rockstar never uses the word Florida in its official material. But the geography, the wildlife, the weather and the sense of humor are unmistakably Floridian, and every region Rockstar has named lines up with a real part of the state.

Even the layout follows the real map: Miami-style city on the Atlantic side, island chain curling off the bottom, swamp in the south, a big lake in the middle, and a long Gulf coast stretching away to the west.
How big is the GTA 6 map?
Rockstar hasn't published an official size. A map image from an older development build leaked in August 2026, and fans have produced estimates from it and from trailer footage, but none of those figures come from Rockstar. We will measure the real thing after launch.
What is certain is that Leonida is a miniature. Real Florida covers about 65,700 square miles, and no game world comes close. Like Los Santos in GTA 5, which squeezed Los Angeles into a city you can cross in a few minutes, Leonida compresses hundreds of miles into a map built for driving, flying and boating in minutes, not hours.
What gets squeezed together
Compression means the distances are wrong in interesting ways. In real Florida, driving from Miami to Panama City takes around nine or ten hours. In Leonida, Port Gellhorn is described as the far side of the map, but "far" in a game means minutes. Expect the Everglades and the sugar towns to sit much closer to the city than they really do, and expect the Keys to be a handful of islands rather than a 113-mile chain.
What seems to be missing
None of the six named regions matches some of Florida's best-known places:
- Orlando and the theme parks, which seem like obvious targets for Rockstar's satire.
- Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg, Florida's other big metro on the Gulf.
- Jacksonville, the state's largest city by population.
- Tallahassee, the state capital.
- Cape Canaveral and the Space Coast.
They could still turn up in some form, under parody names or as smaller locations inside the regions we already know. Or Rockstar may simply have left them out, as it has with parts of California and Nevada in the past.

Is the GTA 6 map the whole of Florida?
No. Leonida borrows the shape and flavor of Florida, but it is a heavily compressed fictional state. Only six regions have been named so far.
How big is the GTA 6 map?
Rockstar hasn't released an official size. Fan estimates based on leaked material and trailers vary, and none are confirmed.
Is Orlando in GTA 6?
Not as far as we know. None of the six named regions is based on Orlando, though a parody could still appear at launch.
Can you go to Georgia in GTA 6?
Fans have spotted references to a neighboring state called Gloriana, but Rockstar hasn't confirmed whether it is playable.
